Mushrooms are having a moment in beauty. The chanterelle, a golden wild mushroom prized by cooks, is one of the more unusual ingredients in our hair care.
What Is Chanterelle Mushroom Extract?
Chanterelle Mushroom Extract comes from Cantharellus Cibarius, the golden chanterelle. In our formulas it is sourced from organic farming.
A 2015 review in Molecules on the antioxidants of edible mushrooms describes mushrooms as sources of polysaccharides, phenolic compounds and other antioxidant molecules. Chanterelles are also known for their carotenoids, which give them their golden color, along with vitamins and minerals.
What It Does for Hair
Nourishes. Mushroom polysaccharides form a light, conditioning film on hair, helping it feel smooth.
Supports body. In our volume formulas, chanterelle works alongside proteins to help fine or limp hair look fuller and more resilient.
Supports a comfortable scalp. Its antioxidant content helps the scalp stay in good condition against everyday stress.
Where You'll Find It at True Colour Beauty
Chanterelle is part of the keratin range: the Keratin Volume Boost Shampoo, the Keratin Volume Boost Conditioner and the Keratin Intensive Rescue Hair Mask.
How to Use It
Shampoo, then condition the mid-lengths and ends. Use the mask once or twice a week. For maximum volume, keep heavier conditioning to the ends.
What the Research Doesn't Say
Mushroom research in cosmetics is still growing. A 2016 review in Cosmetics on mushroom-based beauty products notes that much of the evidence comes from lab studies. There is little published research on chanterelle in hair care specifically, so we describe its benefits as conditioning and supportive.
