Brows frame your whole face, and natural-looking ones are mostly about soft strokes and the right shade. Here is how to map, fill and set your brows with pencil, pomade or soap.
What you'll need
- Automatic Eyebrow Pencil (5 shades)
- Eyebrow Pomade with an Angled Liner Brush (optional)
- Brow Soap
- Slanted Precision Tweezers
Choose your shade
For light hair, choose a brow shade one to two shades darker than your hair, such as Taupe or Ash Brown. For dark hair, go one shade lighter, such as Brown or Charcoal, so brows look soft rather than blocky.
The tutorial
Step 1: Brush and map
Brush brows upwards with a spoolie. Lightly mark three points: the start (in line with the side of your nose), the arch (in line with the outer edge of your iris) and the tail (from the nose past the outer corner of the eye).
Step 2: Tidy only strays
Use Slanted Precision Tweezers to remove only obvious strays below the brow. Overplucking is the most common brow mistake, so less is more.
Step 3: Fill with hair-like strokes
With the Automatic Eyebrow Pencil, draw short, light, upward flicks in the direction your hair grows, focusing on sparse areas. Keep the front of the brow the softest.
Step 4: Define the tail
Use slightly more pressure from the arch to the tail. A defined tail with a soft front looks the most natural.
Step 5: Blend
Brush through with the spoolie to soften any harsh lines.
Step 6: Set with brow soap
Rub a clean spoolie over Brow Soap and brush hairs up and out for a fluffy, laminated look that holds all day.
Want more definition? Use pomade
For bolder brows, or where hair is very sparse, pick up a tiny amount of Eyebrow Pomade on an Angled Liner Brush, wipe off the excess, and draw fine strokes along the lower edge and tail. Blend upwards with a spoolie.
Quick questions
Pencil or pomade?
Pencil is easiest for natural, everyday brows. Pomade gives more definition and longer wear.
Why do my brows look too dark?
Start at the tail, not the front, use light pressure and always blend with a spoolie. Going one shade lighter also helps.
