Jojoba Seed Oil: The Plant Wax That Feels Like Skin's Own

Jojoba is usually called an oil, but technically it isn't one. That small detail is the reason it feels so at home on skin.

What Is Jojoba Seed Oil?

Jojoba Seed Oil is pressed from the seeds of Simmondsia Chinensis, a desert shrub native to the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. In our formulas it is sourced from organic farming.

Chemically, jojoba is a liquid wax made mostly of long-chain wax esters. A 2021 review in Polymers notes that this makes it unusually stable and similar to the wax esters in human sebum.

What It Does for Skin

Softens and conditions. Jojoba forms a light, non-greasy layer that helps skin feel smooth and helps reduce moisture loss.

Feels familiar to skin. Because its structure resembles part of skin's own oil, jojoba absorbs comfortably and suits most skin types, including combination skin.

Supports comfort. A 2017 review of topical plant oils in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences describes jojoba's use in supporting the skin barrier and its soothing properties.

Stays stable. Jojoba resists going rancid better than many plant oils, which helps formulas stay fresh.

Where You'll Find It at True Colour Beauty

The Nourishing Facial Oil and the All-In-One Facial Oil use jojoba as part of their oil blends.

It also appears in the Peptide Renewal Eye Cream, the Retinol Alternative Moisturizer, the Anti-Age Day Cream and the Hydrating Lip Oil.

How to Use It

Use facial oils as the last step of your evening routine, or mix a drop into moisturizer. Creams and eye products with jojoba can be used as directed.

What the Research Doesn't Say

Jojoba is not a cure-all. Its strength is comfort and conditioning. Claims that it controls oil production are not well supported by clinical research.
