Most people think of mango as a fruit. But the large seed inside holds a butter that is one of the most pleasant emollients in skincare.
What Is Mango Seed Butter?
Mango Seed Butter is pressed from the seed kernels of Mangifera Indica. In our formulas it is sourced from organic farming.
A 2015 review in Food Chemistry on mango by-products describes the seed kernel fat as rich in stearic and oleic acids, giving it a texture similar to cocoa butter, and notes its use in cosmetics. Mango kernels also contain phenolic compounds with antioxidant activity.
What It Does for Skin
Softens and smooths. Mango butter melts on contact with skin and leaves it feeling smooth and supple.
Supports the moisture barrier. Like other plant butters, it helps reduce water loss by forming a light, comfortable layer.
Feels lighter than many butters. It is less heavy than shea, which makes it a good fit for eye creams, serums and lipsticks.
Where You'll Find It at True Colour Beauty
Mango seed butter is part of the peptide range: the Peptide Renewal Serum, Peptide Renewal Moisturizer and Peptide Renewal Eye Cream.
It also appears in the retinol-alternative range, including the Retinol Alternative Serum, Retinol Alternative Moisturizer and Retinol Alternative Eye Serum, and in the Sensitive Skin Overnight Cream.
How to Use It
Use mango butter products as directed. They are a comfortable fit for dry, mature and sensitive skin and work well in evening routines.
What the Research Doesn't Say
Research on mango seed butter focuses mostly on its composition rather than clinical skin studies. Its role is comfort and conditioning, in the same family as cocoa and shea butters.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is mango butter the same as mango fruit extract?
No. Mango butter comes from the seed and is a fat. Fruit extracts are water-based and quite different.
Will it feel greasy?
It is lighter than many butters and absorbs comfortably.
Are True Colour Beauty products cruelty-free?
Yes. True Colour Beauty is Leaping Bunny certified.
