Watercress Extract: The Nutrient-Rich Green in Your Skincare

Watercress is better known as a peppery salad green than a skincare ingredient. But the same nutrient density that makes it a kitchen favorite is why it shows up in some of our hydrating formulas.

What Is Watercress Extract?

Watercress Flower/Leaf Extract comes from Nasturtium Officinale, an aquatic plant in the cabbage family. In our formulas it is sourced from organic farming.

A 2018 review in Fitoterapia describes watercress as rich in vitamins (including vitamin C and provitamin A), minerals, flavonoids and phenolic acids, and notes its growing use in cosmetics alongside its long history as a food and folk remedy.

What It Does for Skin

Adds antioxidant support. Watercress polyphenols and vitamins help protect skin from everyday environmental stress, which supports a fresher, brighter look.

Supports an even-looking tone. As part of an antioxidant-rich formula, it helps skin look more even and radiant over time.

Plays a supporting role. Watercress is a botanical booster rather than a lead active. It works best alongside hydrators and emollients.

Where You'll Find It at True Colour Beauty

The Youthful Hydration Serum pairs watercress with hyaluronic acid, Sodium PCA and sunflower seed oil.

The Oil-Free Hydrating Gel Moisturizer uses it in a lightweight gel alongside Zinc PCA.

The Anti-Age Night Cream and the Soft Skin Body Serum include it too.

How to Use It

Use watercress products as directed. It layers easily with other ingredients and suits most skin types. As always, patch test any new product if your skin is reactive.

What the Research Doesn't Say

Most watercress research is on the plant as food or on lab extracts. There are few clinical studies of watercress applied to skin. We include it for its antioxidant profile, not as a stand-alone solution.
